Let's Get Sketchy - May Week 5

The May Week 5 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog was paired with a mood board.
I loved the colors on the board and enjoyed incorporating them into my page layout.

For my page I chose two horizontal photos, so I decided to turn the sketch to the right. This worked great and I feel this is one sketch I'll use over and over again in the future.

The doilies (BoBunny) I had in my stash were plain white, so I got out some Distress Inks (Ranger / Tim Holtz) and altered the color to compliment the sunrise focus of the layout.

For the layers behind the photos, I turned to my large stash of scraps. It's a fun creative process to dig through the piles of scraps to find what you need for background layers.

Make It Monday #60 - The Memory Nest

Take a look at the "Make It Monday" Sketch #60 from The Memory Nest blog:

Here's my take on the sketch -- although the sketch called for a horizontal photo, the vertical photo I used still worked out okay. The photo is a selfie taken by my older daughter after boarding a plane for Spring Break. I've been saving the "plane" cut out from a sheet of Simple Stories paper for some time....it seemed to go perfectly with this page.

Since the background paper was a solid, light blue cardstock, I decided to play with my water color paints. I love using them with a water brush I've had in my stash for years. It's old, but still works like a charm!

Until next time...Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!

Sketches In Thyme: Sketch 200

This afternoon I'm sharing a page created from Sketch 200 on the Sketches In Thyme blog:

For the background of this page, I got out my Color Shine (Heidi Swapp) and a new Fishing Net template (Kaisercraft). The Star Fish was made with an old stencil from Club Scrap (Feb 2010 kit).

Speaking of older supplies....a number of years ago, little embellishments called "dew drops" were very popular. I still have many of them left and still like to use them sometimes.

Here is a close-up of the Star Fish and a few of the "dew drops" followed by the full layout.

Until next time....Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!

Make It Monday #59 - The Memory Nest

Here's a fun sketch from The Memory Nest blog. They have some fun stuff and if you have a few minutes to visit them I think you'll enjoy their blog. Their slogan is "birds of a feather scrap together" -- so cute!

For the background shape, I used scallop circles (instead of the hexagons in the sketch). This is one sketch I plan to use again -- with different background shapes! With the sketch calling for one "main" photo, I felt like the rest of the background was a playground for adding a collage of smaller photos and elements.

Until next time....Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!!

Let's Get Sketchy - May Week 4 Sketch

I'm excited to share this page with you because it was a lot of fun to create. But first, here's a little backstory about the picture it features....

My oldest daughter just finished her first year of college at a school in Chicago. Her dorm room was on the 24th floor of a beautiful 32 story building in the city's South Loop. This spring, one morning as she talked on the phone with her Dad, a window washer suddenly appeared right outside her window! Wow -- I may have a lot of stories from my college days, but that's not one of them! :)

Now that you have the backstory....Here's the May Week 4 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog:

Until next time, HAPPY SCRAPPING and PAPERCRAFTING!

BoBunny - May Sketch

Take a look at the May Sketch Challenge from the BoBunny blog:

For this page, I decided to use papers and Misc. Me cards from BoBunny's "Beautiful Dreamer" collection and some COMBO Stickers from the "Heritage" collection.

The subject of this layout is "The Clinton 12" and a sculpture in their honor located in Clinton, TN. In 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Brown V. Board of Education led to this moment in our nation's history. A group of 12 high school freshmen in Clinton, TN faced public abuse when they helped desegregate the schools in Tennessee. You can find more details about them online and at your local library. If you're ever near Clinton, TN be sure to put a stop here at the top of your list.

ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday (May 20)

Here is the latest sketch from the ScrapMuch? blog followed by the layout it inspired.....

Queen & Co. recently came out with some Pop Up Shakers and this is the first time I've tried one on a layout. By following the simple directions on the package, the shaker was pretty easy to put together and I was pleased with the result. Take a look and let me know what you think!

Until next time....Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!

Stuck?! May 1st Sketch Challenge

Here's the May 1st Sketch from the Stuck?! Sketches blog followed by the layout it inspired!

For my layout, I turned the sketch because it worked better with my background paper and the horizontal photos. The background paper is from "Reminisce" (The Softball Collection - Let's Play Softball). For the page title (dream big), I cut into a 12x12 page of 4x6 Journaling cards from "Simple Stories" (So Fancy - 4x6 Journaling Card Elements). Because my daughter's jersey number is "37," I embellished the page with chipboard numbers 3 & 7!

Until next time....Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!

Collage Project and a little news, too!

This afternoon as I was catching up on visiting blogs, I discovered the Stuck?! Sketches blog chose my submission as a featured layout for this week...How fun!

All day I've been working on a project and it's finally finished and ready to share -- it's a collage frame using lots of ephemera collected over the years along with some paper scraps.

Here are photos of the project from start to finish. It was fun to get out the Tim Holtz Collage Medium (crazing) as well as distress inks and crayons for this project. I got a little messy -- but nothing a wet wipe couldn't fix.

Until next time....Happy Scrapping and Papercrafting!

Step 1:
Collect your supplies.

Step 2:
Start randomly arranging ephemera and sticking it down with collage medium.

Step 3:
Let it dry.....doesn't take long!

Step 4:
With a craft knife, trim excess from outside and inside edges of frame,
then use a file to smooth out any excess/spots you missed.

 Step 5:
Apply some Distress Ink directly to the collage items.
(It's OK to be random -- just put in a few touches of ink here and there.)
Step 6:
Then apply a coat of Collage Medium over the top of the entire collage.
(I used "crazing" for this collage.)

Step 7:
Add some Distress Crayon and blend it into the project -- the layer of Collage Medium makes the blending process easier and the "crazing" gives it a neat look, too!
Keep going until you feel like you have a good amount
and then think about adding a little more!
Enjoy!

Step 8:
Add your photo and display!
