September Sketch Challenge - We Love Summer

Here's the September Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog
followed by the scrapbook layout it helped to inspire!

On my YouTube Channel, you can see exactly how this page came together in this video.

For the page title, I used the Word Punch Board from We R Memory Keepers. While the sketch called for stars, I decided to use hearts created with nesting heart punches!

August Sketch - Let's Get Sketchy Blog

Here's the August Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy Blog followed by the page it inspired me to create! There is also a process video on my YouTube Channel (Emilee's Paper Caper) here.

The photo on this page was taken in front of the movie theater after we saw the newest Spider-Man movie. Since we saw this movie over the July 4th holiday weekend, I used a background paper with red, white and blue on it. The pattern also makes me think of spider webs.

Word Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers

On a recent shopping trip to Tuesday Morning, I found they were selling some of the Word Punch Boards from We R Memory Keepers for only $19.99. As a fan of punches, I couldn't resist bringing this set home with me.

As I learn how to use the Word Punch Board, I've found it helps to punch every other letter and then go back and punch the missing letters. By doing this, the letters are closer together and not so far apart!

Here are some photos of some Happy Birthday cards I made using the Word Punch Board. Instead of rubber stamping the greeting, I used the Word Punch Board to create the words.

Here is a scrapbook page featuring a title created with the Word Punch Board. I decided to punch the title from one of the photos on the layout for something different!

Do you have one of these Word Punch Boards? If so, I'd love to hear how you're using yours!

Make your own Scrapbook Embellishments!

There are so many CUTE embellishments you can purchase for scrapbooking. While these are tempting, sometimes they are just too expensive!

One way to save some money is to create your own embellishments. I'm always looking for new and interesting things to embellish my pages. This time, I decided to try some easy origami!

The tulips decorating this scrapbook page were made in just a few minutes! This YouTube video will show you more about this page -- including a link to a video giving instructions on how to fold your own tulips!

DIY Origami Photo Corners

Photo corners are a nice embellishment on any scrapbook page! You can purchase photo corners but did you know you can also make your own with origami paper? Here are the easy steps.....

1. Select a 3 inch square origami paper

2. Cut the paper in half diagonally

3. Find the center point of the longest side of the triangle

4. Fold the corner to the center point (you will now see two "wings")

5. Fold one wing down.....

and then 6. Fold the second wing down

7. Flip it over

8. Slip the photo corner onto the corner of your photo

Here is how a photo corner looks on a scrapbook page:

Advice for New Scrapbookers!

If you're a brand new scrapbooker, here is some advice and tips to help you get started! I've also created a YouTube video with more advice, so feel free to check it out!

1. START SMALL
When you are new to scrapbooking, it is a good idea to start small with your first album. Perhaps a weekend vacation or holiday would be a good start. Don't try to do something too big or important -- like your family history or wedding.

2. BASIC PAGE ELEMENTS
There are so many wonderful supplies available in stores! But, when you're just starting out, you'll want to start with basic page elements. Here is a list of the items you'll need for your first pages. As you develop your own style, you can add to this list as you discover embellishments and supplies that appeal to you!
- photos
- page base (pattern paper or solid card stock)
- photo mats
- page title (letter stickers)
- buttons / brads

3. BASIC TOOL KIT
You're also going to want to assemble a basic tool kit. I recommend the following items to get you started!
- Paper Trimmer
- Adhesive (glue stick, ATG gun, foam squares are a few examples)
- Ink (for distressing paper edges and for stamping)
- Ribbon and/or Bakers twine
- Scissors
- Pencil with Eraser
- Journaling Pen or Marker
- Paper Piercer

Here is an example of a page I created using only basic page elements! The top 3 things I love about scrapbooking are shared  on this page.

Border Ideas!

In my most recent YouTube Video, I share ideas for scrapbook borders for every month of the year!

Borders are a great way to use your stash of border strips, punches, stickers and paper scraps. Not only can you use them on scrapbook pages, but you can also use them on handmade cards.

Here's an example of a quick and simple birthday card using just small section of a 12 inch scrapbook border. You could probably even make 2 or 3 cards from one 12 inch border strip!

Scrapbooking with Stickers!

When I first started scrapbooking more than 20 years ago, stickers at die cuts were some of the only page embellishments available! After all these years, stickers are still one of my favorite supplies because they are cute, inexpensive and there are so many varieties to choose from.

Here is a recent layout I created using stickers for the page title and embellishments. By using only some stickers for page embellishments, the photos really stand out on this page!

My favorite sticker company has to be Mrs. Grossman's! I'm even signed up for the Mrs. Grossman's sticker club through which I receive LOTS of wonderful stickers each month. Here is a look at the stickers I received in the April Sticker Club mailing! For information about the Club, visit: https://stickerclub.mrsgrossmans.com/,
