Let's Get Sketchy - January Week 4

With all the COLD winter weather, I thought it would be nice to work with some pictures that reminded me of WARMER temperatures! This page features some pictures taken last July during a trip to Long Beach, California.

During this visit, I got to see some of the wonderful murals and art work that were featured around the community as a part of Pow Wow Long Beach. If you're lucky enough to visit Long Beach, I recommend putting a visit to the Long Beach Museum of Art at the top of your list. And, if you like to bicycle, you'll probably have the time of your life in this bike-friendly town!

Here's the January Week 4 sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog. Because my photos were "horizontal," I just turned the sketch to one side.

Until next time, Happy Scrapping!

Stuck?! January 15th Sketch Challenge

Here's the January 15th Sketch from the Stuck?! blog!

The circles in the background made me want to use some glitter embossing paste and I was happy with the result.

Scrap Our Stash - January Sketch +3 Challenge

The January Sketch +3 Challenge was such great inspiration, it was among several sketches I took it with me to the crop this weekend!

We had a blast at this crop as demonstrated by this photo of some of the 70 paper crafters in attendance. We are each holding our "favorite supply or tool! (What's YOUR favorite???)

Here's the layout I created based on the sketch and +3 challenge. For the +3, I used an Arrow (list 1), Basic Grey (list 2), chipboard (list 3). Hope you enjoy the layout!

Let's Get Sketchy - January Week 3

This weekend, I went to a "retreat" hosted by a scrapbooker I've know for many, many years. This time, she had 70 crafters!! This is her 5th year holding crops in a local hotel's conference room. She had a special sheet cake made to help celebrate this milestone and to thank the hotel staff. Over the years, we've made many friends at these "retreats" and documented many memories on probably thousands of scrapbook pages! Here is a photo of just a few of the ladies I cropped with on Friday night!

I took several sketches to this crop -- including the January Week 3 sketch from Let's Get Sketchy

The border on this sketch inspired me to FINALLY use the Sew Stamper tool I've had in my stash for about a year. This tool is from We R Memory Keepers. Now that I've finally used it once, I cannot wait to use it some more. (You'll probably be seeing it again on my pages and cards soon!)

Let's Get Sketchy - January Week 2 Sketch

Lately, I've been enjoying a trip back in time.....
In the 1970s when I was in grade school, I received a Spirograph as a gift. I still have it -- original box, too! I've also been having fun with a Klutz book called "The Spiral Draw Book."

After experimenting with "spiral art," I decided to use some of the creations on cards. When I saw the January Week 2 Sketch from Let's Get Sketchy, I knew I wanted to try incorporating some spiral art on a scrapbook layout, too.

Until next time...HAPPY SCRAPPING!

Let's Get Sketchy - January Week 1 Sketch

Here's the January Week 1 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog along with the layout it helped me create.

Instead of the usual scrapbook embellishments, I decided to use some memorabilia in the upper right corner of the page. For the circles on the sketch, I used a combination of some "paper doilies" as well as some rub-ons that have been in my stash for WAY TOO LONG!

Until next time, happy scrapping to you!

Stuck?!: January Challenge

For this page, I used the January sketch at Stuck?! Sketches

The photos on this page were taken over Thanksgiving while playing a new favorite card game called "Spot It!"

This is a game of both luck and skill -- and each "hand" goes quickly so there a lots of chances for everyone to "win" a round!

Does your family enjoy games and puzzles during the holidays? Be sure to snap a few pictures for a layout to help you remember the laughter and friendly competition.

Scrap Our Stash - January Stash Challenge

Happy New Year!

Feels great to start off 2016 with some scrapbooking!

December was full of challenges from start to finish. And, the month "finished strong" last week with a windy ice storm knocking out power for 3 days! YUCK!

The Scrap Our Stash "January Stash Challenge" was exactly the motivation I needed to get a little messy creating my first page of 2016!

The things about this book cover that inspired my layout were -- the snow drift, the blue sky and the word "back" in the title. I used paint, stickles and glitter embossing paste for the page background and snow. To add some depth and movement to the snow drift, I used one of the Ranger texture tools.

Wishing ALL a happy 2016 filled with LOTS of papercrafting!
