Let's Get Sketchy - August Week 5 Challenge

Today's post is a layout inspired by the August Week 5 Challenge on the Let's Get Sketchy blog
Essentially, the challenge was to create a layout inspired by this ad:

What inspired me about this ad design was the bright, orange background and the bold "hashtag" headline.

So, for my page I decided to create a background with a water brush and tangerine Color Burst from Ken Oliver Crafts.

Until next time, happy scrapbooking and papercrafting!

Let's Get Sketchy - August Week 4 Sketch

Hello! Here's the August Week 4 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog!
For this page, I revisited some photos taken from a mid-June trip to Peoria's Glen Oak Zoo. Audrey and I had a fun day looking at the animals (our favorites were the Giraffe and Rhino). She wanted NOTHING to do with the snakes -- and refused to even look at them. I had no idea she was so repulsed by them -- I'm not a huge fan of snakes either but I do find it interesting to look at them when they are safely behind glass!

These "Zoo" eyelets and brads have been saved in my stash for years -- because I knew I'd eventually want to use them on a layout! I'm so glad I saved them all this time. (Funny thing is -- I still have plenty left -- and I'm saving them for sure....LOL.)

Until next time, Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!

Stuck?!: August 1 Challenge

Hello! Here's the page I made today using the August 1 Challenge sketch from the Stuck?! Sketches blog! The page features pictures taken during a recent trip to Las Vegas. I had fun adding some glitz (with Stickles) to help convey the sparkle and lights of the Vegas Strip!

For the background, I used a 12x12 resist paper and added Liquid Metals (from Ken Oliver Crafts) with a water brush. These are super fun and easy to use!

For the page border, I added some scribbles / doodles and then added flower punches to the corners and stickles for a little "glitz."

Until next time, happy scrapbooking and papercrafting!

Let's Get Sketchy: August Week 3 Sketch

Here's the awesome August Week 3 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog:

For the background of this page, I used some 12x12 "resist" paper that had a design pattern in the background. I used Ken Oliver Color Burst Metallics and a water brush to add the colors. Then after it dried, I used a cotton ball, ink pad and a stencil to add the additional pattern.

Scrap Our Stash: August Book Inspired Challenge

Hello! Here is the page I did for the August Book Inspired Stash Challenge from the Scrap Our Stash blog. The book cover inspired me to use a map on my layout as well as a pointing hand. As I write this blog post, I realize that I totally forgot to use a decorative paper clip....That's OK, I'm still going to share this layout with you anyway.

The photos on this page were taken on a trip to Las Vegas last month! We revisited the Wedding Chapel where we got married -- 25 years ago (this coming September 1st). We celebrated a little early by showing the girls where we "tied the knot." It was a fun trip down "memory lane" for sure.

Sketches In Thyme: Sketch #212

Here's Sketch #212 from Sketches In Thyme

Whenever possible, I like to incorporate ephemera and memorabilia into my scrapbook layouts because it adds a little extra depth to the memories. We saved a room key holder and property map from a recent trip that were perfect for this layout. By opening one side of the room key holder, I created a little pocket to hold the map.

Let's Get Sketchy - August Week 2

Last month, I was lucky to win the June Challenge prize on the Ken Oliver blog. Today, the mail delivered the prize which is this AWESOME set of Color Burst Liquid Metals!

Decided to give these colors a try right away and the August Week 2 Sketch from Let's Get Sketchy was the perfect opportunity!

There are many techniques to try, but I decided to start with a few drops of color and a water brush. It was super fun and I loved the shimmering look of the colors on the page.

Until next time....Happy scrapbooking and papercrafting!

Creative Scrappers: Sketch #297

Here's sketch #297 from Creative Scrappers followed by my take on the sketch.

For the background of this page, I turned to an "anywhere" punch (by Martha Stewart). My punching isn't "flawless" by any means, but I was still pretty happy with the result....(the biggest "mistake" is covered by the photo).

Challenge YOUrself - #31

Here's the challenge/sketch #31 from the Challenge YOUrself blog
Unfortunately, I'm too late for the official 8/4 posting deadline on their blog, but I still want to share the page!

Let's Get Sketchy - August Week 1 Sketch

Today I'm sharing a page inspired by this August Week 1 Sketch from the Let's Get Sketchy blog:

As soon as I saw this sketch, I knew I wanted to do a page using masking tape to create the background with Color Shine (Heidi Swapp) and then some doodling.

Until next time, Happy Scrapbooking and Papercrafting!
